About GFF

The Gdańsk Film Fund was established in April 2022 within the structures of the City Culture Institute.

The Gdańsk Film Fund has two main priorities:

  • a culture-forming role – supporting good film productions and showing Gdańsk as a city with a unique character, culture and values
  • a cultural and economic role – development of Gdańsk as a hub for film culture – fostering the film community: producers, production and post-production.

Financial support is granted to films through a competition organised by the Gdańsk Film Fund. The City Culture Institute will participate in projects selected in the competition as co-producer. The participation of the Gdańsk Film Fund in the film cannot exceed 50% of the planned production costs.

The main eligibility premise for film projects involves linking the film production with Gdańsk: as a place where the film is made, as a theme, through the participation of Gdańsk authors and entrepreneurs and local expenses.

Owing to the date when the first edition of our competition was announced, the producer has to spend 100% of the awarded amount in the Gdańsk area.

Film productions are assessed in three stages, undergoing formal, expert (content and organisation) and strategic assessment (delivered by the GFF Programme Board).

In addition to the film’s artistic, economic and financial aspects, the strategic evaluation analyses such criteria as the link between the film and Gdańsk: theme, setting of the film in different places around Gdańsk, and the city’s cultural attractions. These criteria are described in detail in the Competition Terms and Conditions at www.gdanskifunduszfilmowy.pl.

The call for projects for the Gdańsk Film Fund competition is announced once a year. Producers applying for a financial contribution for their project under the Gdańsk Film Fund should submit an appropriate application available at www.gdanskifunduszfilmowy.pl.
